As Winter Gives Way to Spring

The joy that I feel once the calendar turns to March 1st is almost unparalleled. I want to throw open the windows, remake all the beds (and contemplate hanging lavender scented sheets out to dry), purge the pantries, kick the spiders out and fill every nook and cranny with flowers, preferably daffodils and ranunculus. I know Anne Shirley called herself blessed to live in a world of Octobers, but I am happy experiencing a yearly March.

I consider myself a collector of cliches and man, I live for “new beginnings”. If the year started in Spring I’d happily keep all of my resolutions. March is a month-long crisp morning that carries a “first sip of coffee” energy, and a song-bird joy.

Which leads me to wonder, is it just the longer days? The warmer temperatures? What does living aligned with the seasons mean for my mental health and overall well being? I think our souls are designed to experience ‘rebirth’, and the seasons exist in a spiritual sense to remind us to look from darkness to light.
